Is there a reason why this filter is commented out by default?  It seems
like we have to tell people to uncommented way more than we tell people
to turn it off.  Actually, I don't ever recall telling anybody to turn
it off.

@Alan, can we switch this default?  People do SES all the time now -- it
seems more sensible to have it by default and working out of the box.  I
think the only draw back is it may take a couple of CPU clock cycles to
run, however it's so little code I doubt anybody could even test for a
difference in speed.
