Yes squirrel creates these. Courier does not.

Thanks for the reply.
More about how this thing is running.
The mail server accepts email, and it gets put in the
user's Maildir/new directory like expected.
The error comes when the email client attempts to
retrieve the email.
username and password are correct, the directory
permissions are the same as the previously working 4.0
server.
I just don't get what is different about using this with 4.1?
I've installed these packages on several previous systems
and they all work without problem.
what has changed with 4.1?
As I look this over more closely, I notice that
the directories that the instructions that
courier-imap-4.1.1p0.tgz
and
courier-pop3-4.1.1.tgz
say to use
output from running pkg_add
are not right.
I began to notice this when I manually ran what
the instructions output by pkg_add said.
Example:
sasquatchwoods# mkdir -p /var/run/courier
sasquatchwoods# /usr/local/sbin/authdaemond start
/var/run/courier-auth/pid.lock: No such file or directory
ll_daemon_start: Resource temporarily unavailable
sasquatchwoods#
NOTE: the first command creates directory
/var/run/courier
The next command generates an error because
it wants
/var/run/courier-auth/
So then I change the command to
mkdir -p /var/run/courier-auth
and
/usr/local/sbin/authdaemond start
appears to run OK.
When i look in my maillog, I see these errors:
Sep 18 18:57:56 sasquatchwoods authdaemond: Installing libauthuserdb
Sep 18 18:57:56 sasquatchwoods authdaemond: File not found
Sep 18 18:57:56 sasquatchwoods authdaemond: Installing libauthpwd
Sep 18 18:57:56 sasquatchwoods authdaemond: Installation complete:
authpwd
Sep 18 18:57:56 sasquatchwoods authdaemond: Installing libauthpgsql
Sep 18 18:57:56 sasquatchwoods authdaemond: File not found
Sep 18 18:57:56 sasquatchwoods authdaemond: Installing libauthldap
Sep 18 18:57:56 sasquatchwoods authdaemond: File not found
Sep 18 18:57:56 sasquatchwoods authdaemond: Installing libauthmysql
Sep 18 18:57:56 sasquatchwoods authdaemond: File not found
Sep 18 18:57:56 sasquatchwoods authdaemond: Installing libauthpipe
Sep 18 18:57:56 sasquatchwoods authdaemond: Installation complete:
authpipe
Not sure if they're relevent.
I also notice in my 4.0 system, that the directory is /etc/courier-imap
on this 4.1 system, it's /etc/courier
I just get the feeling that some of the directories have changed with
4.1, and I'm not sure where and how to repair it.
basically, after having used these packages for years, something has
changed with 4.1, and I'm lost without a clue.
I'm building this server for somebody else, and they're down until I
can
figure this out.
Any help getting aimed in the right direction is appreciated. :-)
Thanks, Ed
