Yes, I did make some manual modifications but to make sure I hadn't messed
things up I did a clean install of OF2.2.
This is always reproducible on my system and could pose a problem (I guess) if someone has a crash and needs to re-install OF.
There's now functionality in the GUI that allows for backing up your
metadata.
My configuration is as follows: a dual Athlon MP 2400 on a Tyan Tiger MB; 3ware
9500s-12 with 8 drives; 1 pair of raid 1 drives for the o/s, swap, boot and the
volume 'data'; 6 drives in a raid 5 array with the volume 'storage' on it.
The volume 'storage' was exported from a previous install of OF, the raid 1
boot partitions etc were wiped and reformatted, if I leave the volume 'storage'
on the system and install OF on the raid 1 then then I can't create the volume
on th e raid 1 device as I described earlier. If I unplug the six HD in the
raid 5 array then I can install OF and create the volume 'data' on the raid 1
device.
OK, so what you really need is the ability to access and manage the VG
"storage" and any LVs associated with it.
What I worry about however, is that your lvdisplay did not show any LVs
associated with the "storage" VG.
Do this:
pvscan
vgscan
vgchange -ay
lvdisplay (and look for LVs associated with "storage" VG)
Go to /opt/openfiler/etc/
edit volumes.xml
Make it look something like this:
<volumes>
<volume id="test" name="test" mountpoint="/mnt/data/test/"
vg="data" fstype="ext3"
incominguser=""
incomingpassword="" outgoinguser="" outgoingpassword="" />
</volumes>
The above should be pretty self explanatory.
You'll need to edit your fstab and enter the relevant data to mount the
volume(s)
Then do:
mount -a
I have a recollection that I posted about this on the forums when I first got
my system some months ago.
If I follow your instructions and do:
vgchange -an
vgremove data
vgremove storage
vgdisplay to make sure there's nothing else
.... the only thing left on the system is the exported 'storage' volume. This
still has a logical volume on it and as I'm rather nervous about doing an
lvremove (does that make it impossible to get at the data?) I can't get rid of
that volume. I have 700GB of data on thare that I don't want to lose.
It does indeed make it impossible to get at data.
R.
