Cough, splutter! Australia? Major breakthroughs in implementingI should probably further add that openEHR will be trialled in Australia now under the national HealthConnect programme. Requirements specification is nearly finished for two clinical trials; some implementation has been done (e.g. we have X-schemas for all openEHR reference models - the equivalent of HL7 CDA and CEN 13606 EHR Extract); the DSTC (http://www.dstc.edu.au; search for "Titanium" home page) has done quite a lot of code for GEHR which is being upgraded to openEHR. The clinical trials will start around Q3 2004. There are also other implementation moves afoot. So the picture is brighter than you might think.
EMRs in primary care? As recently discussed, we have the Medical Director package on a lot of GP desktops, but the EMR facilities are pretty rudimentary, and as Thomas Beale pointed out, the utiliastion of those facilities is unknown but likely to be modest - most GPs us it just to write scripts.
Would some Australian GPs in active practice (there are several subscribed to this list) care to comment further?
