Where is this breakthrough and how come I haven't heard of it?
here's a link - http://www.health.gov.au/healthonline/connect.htm

I am not claiming this is the only or main solution by any means - it is the government's attempt to get some nationwide EHR interoperability infrastructure going, and openEHR is one of the technologies/approaches being tried. I believe however that openEHR is probably the only truly standards-oriented approach, and the only one with really strong links to CEN and HL7.
Thanks for that reminder. I was aware of the Health Connect project but I hadn't seen anything in the tender docs that it involved some openEHR.

I'll be interested to see results of the Tasmanian and NT fast tracks.

I guess my concern is that despite all the hoopla most big bang approaches fail because of the federal / national / states system. Basically the states power on with their own solutions - usually proprietary and dominated ultimately by the need for limited funding / outcomes output to funding bodies and the Feds power on with their National solution.
