One important/urgent notice:

Pls. do not take my prior post as advertising of a company; and I assure you
that I have no financial interest with this company...

So it is just an example for a paradigm shift in User Interface and
Human-Machine Interaction domains...

Their business model were not suitable for FOSS at 2001, but maybe now they
because from day 1 they sere into a SOA...(Service Oriented Architecture)
which I belive is 100% compatible for FOSS and other projects...So you do
not pay for SW, but for services (which we all do!)

Best regards,

Dr. Koray Atalag

Hi to all,

Regarding the GUI and checkboxes paradigm; I would strongly suggest that you
look at:

http://www.anoto.com <http://www.anoto.com/>

http://www.anotofunctionality.com/

These guys I met in 2001 at Hannovery CeBit fair...The solution I believe is
not "computerise" healtcare domain but to enable "electronic and structured
data" collection...So they were one of candidate partners for CEREBRUS
project. What they simply do is ability to design your own paper forms which
are transformed into electronic form on-the-fly while you use a special
inexpensive pen connected to either your GPRS/BlueTooth enabled Mobile/PDA
and/or WAP (Wireless Access Points) or BlueTooth Access points at the point
of care! Smart ha?

Also, take a close look at my GUI at PATHOS-WEB Project
(http://pathos-web.org/pathos-web_en.htm), which has been evolved by
feedback from doctor users since 11 years...They might seem very very
amateur; but that's the secret...A Typical healtcare user, especially
doctors are too busy to deal with "Computer Freaks"... BTW, it is now ranked
at SF one of the top projects; even more popular than WorldVista :-) So this
might prove my proposal on the use of "dummiest GUI" for healtcare users...

Comments?

Can someone advise me, why does OpenEMR tend to have so many
checkboxes in its forms? (I am without a clue, just a sentence or two
  is sufficient.)

Free form text in a database cannot be used to generate reports etc, which
are needed to get statistics and do audit and research. THerefore the
innumerable check boxes. The other way to do is to use workflows, where the
way you fill a few check boxes will direct you accordingly to other forms
with check boxes.

Once you get the hang of it, and if you are concerned about the ability to
generate statistical reports, it becomes , er, acceptable?

P.S. If some of you can identify that bull-crap package from the fact
that the psychiatric 'progress note/existing pt. visit' form is 17
pages, you win the prize!
