Thanks. Somewhat sheepishly, I have figured out the problem some
10 later on my own. So the archives will get it:

The syntax

ipmitool -I lan -H 10.0.0.7 -U Admin -P *********** chassis status

works both locally and remote. Now if only somebody could tell me
how to redirect the console over LAN (which tool to use on the other end),
and you've made my day.
