Hello djg: Thanks for the response. My comments are inline below....

These are databases that OpenNMS can *monitor* (up/down, send alerts for, etc.). These are *not* the databases that OpenNMS uses to store its data--we only support PostgreSQL for that. [Usha]: Got it... Just an FYI, before Ingres got spun off from CA in 2005 (as an enterprise ready Open Source DBMS), the CA customers used CA-Unicenter TNG software for this purpose..... But, currently I am not aware of any Open Source management software that can do the job of managing Ingres installations... I think it would be nice to see Ingres in the list to help any potential customers who may want to use OpenNMS for monitoring Ingres installations..... > ... and I am interested in adding Ingres (www.ingres.com), > another opensource DBMS to its list of supported RDBMSs.... > Could you please point me to the Opennms documentation to > get started on this task? I strongly encourage you to *not* do it, unless you have a very strong reason why you need Ingres and are willing to support it in the future. One database is hard enough for us to support, at least right now <grin>. [Usha]: I agree.. After reading the info provided at the URL http://www.opennms.org/wiki/Why_PostgreSQL, I understand that how challenging and time consuming effort it will be to port the OpenNMS software to work with Ingres given that the software uses PostgreSQL specific features in its implementation... However, I also notice that there are plans to use hibernate to access relational databases... Once this milestone is achieved in the OpenNMS project I think that it would be a fairly easy task to add Ingres to the list of DBMSs supported by OpenNMS because Ingres is hibernate certified (https://www.hibernate.org/382.html).... I am interested in any future OpenNMS development tasks surrounding the usage of hibernate to access Ingres... > Mainly I wonder about > > 1. What RDBMS features that Opennms expects to be supported by Ingres? http://www.opennms.org/wiki/Why_PostgreSQL > 2. Documentation about configuring opennms to use relational databases for its data storage needs? > 3. And any other info that would help me to get started on this project... I'll decline to answer the other questions for now, unless decide you really, Really, REALLY, *REALLY* want to use Ingres after reading the above information. - djg ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------ This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Verizon Developer Community Take advantage of Verizon's best-in-class app development support A streamlined, 14 day to market process makes app distribution fast and easy Join now and get one step closer to millions of Verizon customers http://p.sf.net/sfu/verizon-dev2dev _______________________________________________ Please read the OpenNMS Mailing List FAQ: http://www.opennms.org/index.php/Mailing_List_FAQ opennms-devel mailing list To *unsubscribe* or change your subscription options, see the bottom of this page: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/opennms-devel ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Throughout its 18-year history, RSA Conference consistently attracts the world's best and brightest in the field, creating opportunities for Conference attendees to learn about information security's most important issues through interactions with peers, luminaries and emerging and established companies. http://p.sf.net/sfu/rsaconf-dev2dev _______________________________________________ Please read the OpenNMS Mailing List FAQ: http://www.opennms.org/index.php/Mailing_List_FAQ opennms-devel mailing list To *unsubscribe* or change your subscription options, see the bottom of this page: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/opennms-devel
