yes, exactly. This sentence "STLINK/V2 does when using the new API but that has not been added in OpenOCD yet." explains it. Spen, have you had a time to implement this feature ? Or I just missed it ? It seems to me this is the only missing feature in STLink V2 support. I am using STM32F4 Discovery kit with CodeLite and OpenOCD from Freddie's pages and it works pretty good.
