Hi, I have observed the following behaviour using Smart card/token on
different versions of MAC OS-

1. Upon inserting my token,
- On MAC OS X 10.4.3, pcscd was auto launched but no tokend was run by the
securityd.
- On MAC OS X 10.4.4, pcscd was auto launched but no tokend was run by the
securityd.
- On MAC OS X 10.4.6, nither pcscd was auto launched nor tokend was run by
the securityd.

Note: Above test was done using-
Token Model:- iKey 2032
Token driver:- iKey 2032's ifdhandler driver
Token State:- Initialized and no certificate was present.
pcsctest Result: In all the cases test succeeded and displayed the token
ATR.

2. Upon inserting the equivalent Smart card,
- Same behaviour was predicted in all above 3 cases i.e. pcscd was auto
launched and all the tokends (i.e. CAC, BELPIC, JPIC) present in the
/System/Library/Security/tokend were launched by the securityd in order to
find a match with the inserted Smart card.

Note: Above test was done using-
Smart Card Model:- 330
Reader Model:- Omnikey 3121
Reader driver:- MAC OS X's CCID driver
Smart Card State:- Initialized and no certificate was present.
pcsctest Result: In all the cases test succeeded and displayed the card ATR.

My questions-
Q1:- Could you please comment why the Smart card/token produced such a
different behaviour?

Q2:- My concern is not with the pcscd's auto start but why none of the
tokends was invkoed by the securityd upon insertion of iKey 2032 tokens?

Q3:- How can we make the securityd to be notified about the insertion of a
token and ask to launch the tokends from the
/System/Library/Security/tokend?

Thanks...
