+1. Sounds good to me if the manpower is available. One small thing - I hope by 'transport' you mean copy. I would rather the old wiki remains intact in some kind of archive location.
I would suggest it would also be best to do the initial push for a website overhaul in a subdomain rather than immediately replace the old wiki. Then when it reaches a minimally acceptable point the switch could be made. One thing potential documentation writers may want to try is going into the #opensim-dev channels and quizzing developers directly about things. We're not all good at writing documentation but everybody is happy to answer questions.
