As regards to OpenSim contributions, I doubt that the viewer license change to LGPL will make any difference. LGPL just
makes it possible to link non-GPL code to the viewer code. The viewer code itself is still virally licensed.

As the license has been changed, the project may revise the
contribution policy. However, this would not cancel out the 6 months
cooldown period that would be applied to your work with the 1.x
viewer code base, since that has not been relicensed, or at least

previously). My interest in the viewer has in the past limited my ability to
contribute to OpenSim. I'm curious if this licensing change might not have an
