I had the same problem initially with the opensocial object not being available but it seemed to 'fix itself'. After a while of usage this problem does not appear now with orkut. My problem beyond this, was in not getting anything back from the server when requesting viewer profile information. I do not even have an object to get some error from!! I think orkut is full of bugs at the mo.
If you want we could become 'friends' so as to build a friend network with for testing. I am building a business application.
