Joerg> Your remarks are nice but they don't apply to OpenSolaris. Why not? Certainly OpenSolaris is not going to accept any random bit of stuff that someone wants to contribute. Some sort of review process is needed, even for things that the community thinks are critical. It's true that the review process for OpenSolaris is not yet well-defined. John Beck and folks are working on a proposal for that. In the mean time, we can follow the same basic approach that we've already used to take in fixes from the OpenSolaris community. Someone signs up to do the engineering work, and someone from Sun signs up to sponsor the work and help the first person get through the existing Sun review processes. I don't see why this is an either/or situation. That is, I think we can have compatibility with older Solaris releases, and we can have compatibility with the other OpenSolaris distros. But it will take some time and engineering work to get there. mike _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
