I want to know which one of these desktop environment is the fastest and

short answer: Faster: CDE, More functionality: JDS, EASE of use (by miles):
JDS.

Things like speed and functionality are pretty much objective, and I agree
the CDE is much faster and that JDS seems to hav emore functionality. But
ease of use is subjective: personally, I find CDE much easier to use than
JDS. The biggest impediment to JDS' ease of use (to me) is the use of the
Launch button. WIth today's huge screens and ultra hires frame buffers,
asking someone to move the mouse all the way to the lower left corner just
to launch an app is non-optimal. In CDE, I can right click anywhere on the
desktop and have a "launch" menu appear: that is how JDS should work (or at
least have the option to do so).

I think large screens have been overlooked by desktop developers. They really do change the way one works. I have found that I hardly use virtual desktops any more, I launch everything I use once and leave it running.

I also use bigger (in pixels) windows, which has a real impact on JDS, even with nvidia drivers.

Maybe optimisations for large screens are worth looking into?

Ian
