Sun Ultra 45. If you want something cheaper, the Opteron based Ultra 20 is great. And if you want something cheaper but must have UltraSparc, a used Sun Blade 1000/2000 will do you good.
This is a very vague question. What *real* answer do you expect? A 'company' answer to this question would just be marketing speak and meaningless to most people anyways. I suppose the real question is 'where does the current x86 lineup fit in *your* usage model'? For me personally, the x86 line gives me the ability to purchase an inexpensive fully supported Opteron server which runs Solaris 10/11 (x2100).
I don't have an answer for this (I don't work for Sun), but if no one else on this list responds with answer, please don't take it as Sun is 'hiding' certain knowledge from the public. Most likely, the people who know about this are just not on this list, or the decision simply has not been made yet. It's a bit harsh to claim that Sun is hiding information when in fact Sun is probably the most 'open' company in the industry right now. -Moazam |
