Following are the ways that I know of to install the applications on OpenSolaris from end-users perspective:
1. Install from the package repository by "Package Manager Web Installer". Go to http://pkg.opensolaris.org/release/en/index.shtml and search the packages you want to have. Take "openoffice" for example, it will take you to http://pkg.opensolaris.org/release/en/search.shtml?token=openoffice&action=Search. There is an "Install" column and just click "Install" beside package "openoffice". Choose "Package Manager" to open and choose "proceed" can install OpenOffice on your box. 2. Install with Package Manager GUI. On up-left of your desktop, choose "System"->"Administration"->"Package Manager". Search for "openoffice", select the corresponding checkbox and click "Install/Update". 3. Install with pkg Command line: % pfexec pkg install openoffice BTW, the files with extensions .hqx and .dmg should be specific for MacOS. -Alfred On 06/02/09 15:22, khaldoun wrote: > hello guys, > i have a lenovo laptop 3000 N100, which is normally for windows installation. > but > i have made a solaris partition and i did install the opensolaris. now > everything is ok for the installation of the OS. > but > when i download anything from the internet (for opensolaris) it is not > opening because it is saying that the is no specific application to open this > specific application. > for example, i had download application with extension .hqx and .dmg, which > is normally opening in the normal solaris macintoch. but on the open solaris > it cannot open. > i tried to install an application to open the .hqx and .dmg, but the > application needs another application to get open like winzip or something > else. so now i am stuck inside the open solaris OS, without any capability to > add any other software application. > of course i am talking about the FREE applications. > > did anyone had faced this problem before???? > kindly can you advice. is there any website that we can dowload free apps for > open office and it can open without any specific apps. > > and thank you very much > _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
