I have never before tried Solaris or OpenSolaris, so I am just now trying the OpenSolaris 2008.05 .iso. When I boot with the CD, I first go to a console GRUB menu, and then absolutely nothing thereafter happens. I waited without touching anything for several minutes to see if a timer was waiting to boot the OpenSolaris kernel. All this time, my CD drive has no activity. Here is the GRUB menu I see: http://users.bigpond.net.au/hermanzone/p15/fig2grub.gif. No more. No less.
My hardware: Sager NP9262 Notebook 4 GB RAM Intel Q6770 2.66GHz Quad Core Processor NVIDIA 8800M GTX 512MB 3 Hardrives connected by Intel hardware RAID 0 - Each hard drive is 150GB 17" WUXGA (1920x1200) Display DVD?R/RW Combo drive - Works perfectly with numerous Linux and BSD CD's I realize my hardware is all pretty new, but I am not sure why this should mean a stall at the GRUB menu. I imagine there is nothing I can do to make the CD automatically do what it should be doing, so are there any commands I can enter into the GRUB console that will start loading the OpenSolaris kernel? After running through the Getting Started Guide, the only possible conflict I found was this line: "At this time, the OpenSolaris 2008.05 release is for x86 platforms only." My hardware is meant to be x86_64, which is a contradiction to that statement, but I have seen all kinds of discussions about OpenSolaris on amd64 and so forth, so is it really true this is only for x86?
