Sorry for the veeery late response.
Tunla, I followed your instructions, here is the output:
# ifconfig -a gives rge0 as not configured, but gives a sppp0 that appears 
configured because the inet field has an ip that appears right

#netstat -nr yields this
default                 200.40.19.67      UG     1     0
200.40.19.67       190.0.137.233    UH     1     0    sppp0
127.0.0.1             127.0.0.1            UH     1     311 lo0

The file /etc/nsswitch.conf looks pretty much like the default one, I mean all 
entries contain the word "file", I don't recognize any particular dns 
configuration (but if the file it refers are configured then it should be 
configured right?), and the file /etc/resolv.conf doesn't exist :( 

Finally:
#svcs -a | grep dns yields:
disabled    10:09:15    svc:/network/dns/multicast:default
disabled    10:09:15    svc:/network/dns/server:default
offline        10:09:14    svc:/network/dns/client:default

That's it. Any suggestion?
