I have seen interesting results with compilations relying of predefined
macros. If you set "-Aa" the compiler goes to strict ANSI mode and you
won't see too many predefined macros at all (the same applies to gcc -ansi).
It only becomes usable with -D_HPUX_SOURCE (or starting with 10.X call
-Ae which implies this define and some other useful things activated with
+e like 64bit long long.

I have seen your CVS commit and will try it once I am back in the office
tomorrow morning. I typically call Configure directly, because the "perl"
in the default path is perl4 and a "perl5 Configure hpux10-cc" makes
wonders reality :-) Of course I have to switch to hpux-parisc-cc in the
future. And I appreciate your information with regard to +O4 in Configure,
so that users understand why +O3 is now the default.
(Anonymous sent a script to build openssl with shared libraries. I have
extended it a bit so that I run +O4 shared libs and apps with +O3 static
libs, since the shared libs are optimized while building the libs, so the
actual linking to applications is fast. It might take some minutes more
tweaking before I can re-publish it, but others might be interested, too.)

Best regards,
        Lutz
