That's because Sun has only started switching to a saner directory layout.
On SunOS 5.8, you have /var/run/rpc_door/rpc_* and /var/run/syslog_door,
but you still have /etc/mnttab, /etc/utmppipe and /etc/syslog.pid.
/etc/.syslog_door is a now a link to /var/run/syslog_door.
