Hoping to throw a little cool water on this heated thread, I have just seen a
galley proof of the following:

"SSL & TSL Essentials, Securing the Web"
    Author: Steven A. Thomas
    Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
    ISBN: 0471383546

The book is scheduled for release this month (January 2000) and I was able to
reserve a copy at fatbrain.com (i.e., Computer Literacy Bookstore) which is
where I viewed the proof.

A brief glance at the proof leads me to believe that many of the base issues
regarding OpenSSL are covered at at least an introductory level. This includes
cipher set, certificates, key exchanges, etc.

This, in addition to the material available at www.openssl.org, should provide a
competent programmer adequate documentation to effectively utilize the OpenSSL
toolkit.
