The install process blocked when I gave it the 3rd CD. After hiting
ENTER a couple of times, I finally chose "Ignore" and voila, I had the
same problem for the 4th CD. I chose "Ignore" again and the install
process asked for the 5th CD. The 5th CD ran without any problems and
the installation continued up until "Hardware Configuration" page setup
where there is still a problem on the "Hardware Configuration" setup
page. I believe that is last problem is related to Sax2 configuration
process under Vmware.

I had the same CD problem in Virtual PC, but I didn't solve it until
after I got the system up and running. Even though I couldn't get it to
install from anything other than CD1, I got a base system with X11 and
FVWM. Although X11 runs fine on Virtual PC for Windows, I get an error
on the Mac version (dlopen: /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libpcidata.so:
undefined symbol: SetupPciIds), so I just use vncserver running inside
the virtual machine, which would probably work for VMware as well.

From this base install, I was able to run yast to install more software
(BTW, the beta 4 warning about leaving CD1 in the drive applies to any
time you go to add software--when I started yast with a different CD in
the drive, it didn't see any packages).

Here's what I did; I imagine the same thing would work during the install:

When I got the first error about the CD (I think it was some kind of
media error), I switched over to another terminal, and looked in
/var/log/YaST2/y2log. That's where you can find where it's trying to
mount the CD (for example, /var/adm/mount/AP_0x0000000).

What worked for me is doing "mount /dev/hdc
/var/adm/mount/AP_0x00000007", clicking OK in the CD dialog, and then
umounting /dev/hdc when it asks for the next one, and mounting the new
one on that same mount point.

The one problem with this approach is minor, but annoying: the count of
remaining packages will not be updated as you're installing, so you have
no idea how much time is left.
