My 10.0 also boots from LVM as well, but not with my own compiled kernel (before LVM I had no problems). That would bring up the point of documenting the boot magic that's going on (and the secret options available for the "init" shell script in initrd). I guess there's some problem in initrd, but that's painful to debug by trial (boot) and error (reset).
