This is the case since there are less packages in -standard installed compared to the SUSE 5 CD installer. That could be the reason for the sax2 bug you are experiencing. It is only faster until you actually install more packages. Personally I prefer XFS these days, since it has online defrag and keeps the system fast, even once you install more apps.
