Some BIOS have a compatibility mode for supporting both the PATA and
SATA ports that requires only a subset of the entire provision of SATA
ports be used.

5) Cabling defect.

Both cables supplied with my last motherboard provided a very loose fit
compared to others. I replaced them immediately.
