fault???  usb devices work on my box, SUSE 10.1 X2 x86_64, but 

ls -la /proc/bus
total 0
dr-xr-xr-x    4 root root 0 2006-12-12 19:49 .
dr-xr-xr-x  294 root root 0 2006-12-11 21:18 ..
dr-xr-xr-x    2 root root 0 2006-12-15 15:51 input
dr-xr-xr-x    5 root root 0 2006-12-12 19:49 pci

and 2.6.16.xxx would not see any of my usb devices, including the
printer   :^(
