I don't use vmware, but had similar issue with Zoneminder closing it's
mySQL db on time.  I made zm script last-to-start and first-to-kill
which solved the problem.

Yeah.. But my VMware is actually the first to stop, but as it takes up to 10 minutes to finish, the system kills it prematurely.
