I understand that. That's why this isn't the default option. However
almost every distribution offers you the possibility to also completely
remove the configuration files. Isn't there such a command in openSUSE?

Dunno. It's a feature I don't miss.

If wanted, the developpers can create an uninstall script that runs automatically when the rpm is uninstalled, I think.

You can also list the configuration files (rpm -c), and possibly write a script to remove them.


I can not tell categorically if config files are always removed or not. I'm not certain. I remember time ago that when a package was removed yast created a backup archive of changed configuration files, stored somewhere under /var. I'd have to try removing something to know more.
