I played french horn professionally for 10 years before I got my current job doing webapps. I loved being a musician, but got bored with it. Now I love programming. I have no CS degree, but I wish I did. I take online classes and have the Java Programmer's Certificate because I want to have paper credentials in addition to know-how.

A lot of the really good people in this industry I've met came from other disciplines and got into this because they really enjoy it.
