Name makes sense in my case since I am utilizing the name attribute to identify if i.e. a textfield with that name has an error. The label attribute doesn't do anything (check label.vm). It is the value attribute that really generates a label with the string from that attribute. Unless I am having some weirdo CVS checkout........... ;)
