No, they get their money from those who don't have insurance and have to pay
out of pocket. Insurance dictates what the hospitals get paid, and the
uninsured have to subsidize the hospitals for the difference.

I should know, I had kidney cancer 3 years ago, and had no insurance.
Example: insurance pays about $270 for an abdominal CT scan. I had to pay
$750. Why? Because I don't have armies of lobbyists cutting special deals
for me on Crapitol Hill. Also, did you know you cannot sue your HMO unless
you are a government (state, local, federal) employee? That's right, the
government worker is a protected special class thanks to the ERISA law. So
if your HMO denies you timely and proper treatment and you suffer as a
result, you can't sue unless you work for the government. Period. Why
would they deny treatment? Because bean counters run the show. An HMO bean
counter denying you medical treatment is functionally the same as them
practicing medicine without a license. That's illegal, but no HMO bean
counters are getting arrested for it, are they? Sorry for the rant, this is
a hot button issue for me, and I like to set things straight.

Anyways, $45K and 3 years later, I am doing fine. Thanks be to God and not
the HMO's...

Best regards,
