Hi Matthew and you all,
This is how it looks:

Firewall has these ports open, which I'm sure doesn't make any difference.
root@siggi-work:/usr/local/var/log/openvas# ufw status
Status: active

To Action From
-- ------ ----
139,445/tcp ALLOW Anywhere
22 ALLOW Anywhere
631 ALLOW Anywhere
9390 ALLOW Anywhere
9391 ALLOW Anywhere

ps -ef |grep openvas:
root 28909 1 0 May31 ? 00:00:00 openvassd: waiting for
incoming connections

netstat -tulpen:
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:9391 0.0.0.0:*
LISTEN 0 50637429 28909/openvassd: wa

These are the contents of the openvasmd.log:
root@siggi-work:/usr/local/var/log/openvas# tail openvasmd.log
md main:WARNING:2011-06-01 09h06.44 utc:32108: read_from_server:
failed to read from server: A TLS packet with unexpected length was
received.

md main: INFO:2011-06-01 09h38.40 utc:32426: OpenVAS Manager

md main: INFO:2011-06-01 09h38.40 utc:32426: Set to connect to
address 127.0.0.1 port 9391

md main: INFO:2011-06-01 09h38.40 utc:32426: Updating NVT cache.*

Hmmm...this is interesting:
md main:WARNING:2011-06-01 09h38.41 utc:32426: read_from_server:
failed to read from server: A TLS packet with unexpected length was
received*

I would rather resolve this with community support, If you're getting
tired (I would'nt be surprised :) Maybe there is someone else who wants
to take a shot? Thank you by the way for all your help, I really
appreciate it.

Maybe I'll just have to install a lecacy version of Openvas with the
package manager. Which is a bummer.
