Have you check the encodings your XML files declare AND use ?

An interesting theory -- but why would they work with 1.7.0pre0 but not 1.7.0b?
And an error on my part, it's etc/worklist/passwd.xml that was problematic.
I'm using a combination of uman and vi or emacs to do the configuration editing for both.

The def_servers issue was a mistake on my behalf. I already said I was sorry.

That was a completely separate issue.  If I've come across as complaining on this one(?), I apologize.  My posting was just trying to get at why several .xml config files appeared to be problematic.

But I DO publicly state when something gets 'incompatible' and the
middle version numer increments.

Why didn't you just drop the new jars on top of the old ones ?

I'll try that.  This would be another thing to recommend in a README or other distro doc.

I really don't know what I could answer to that. Really.

I was indirectly volunteering to be a guinea pig for new stuff before it was distributed at large.   It doesn't matter to me who does the testing, but it might prevent some of the issues discovered lately.  I thought it might just save other people some pain.

best,
Tony
