An interesting theory -- but why would they work with 1.7.0pre0 but not
1.7.0b?
It's not a theory, it's a question. I've had numerous forum post
leading to mismatch between the XML header and the actual encoding, so
allow me the question.
And an error on my part, it's etc/worklist/passwd.xml that was problematic.
I'm using a combination of uman and vi or emacs to do the configuration
editing for both.
I think that now I understand : since OpenWFE 1.7.0preX (where X > 0),
jars are divided among regulars jars (jars/*.jar) that have all
permissions, and restricted jars (jars/restricted/*.jar) that have
only the permissions given by their component policy file and their
passwd.xml.

I'll try that. This would be another thing to recommend in a README or
other distro doc.
Indeed.
I was indirectly volunteering to be a guinea pig for new stuff before it
was distributed at large. It doesn't matter to me who does the testing,
but it might prevent some of the issues discovered lately. I thought it
might just save other people some pain.
Tony, please understand that it's open source software and that I do
it apart from my regular job. I'm sorry if you lost time, but I have
to say that it's difficult for me to understand the tone of your
emails... I'm not a supplier.
I'd be really glad to have you on board [as a tester].
Have a nice day,
