 that's correct, in case your flash is full, the fs is mounted read only
 and you need to reinstall
 The real problem is filling up the flash that it's full...

 Did you ever try to fill up your linux hdd? it's not booting anymore even
 in bigger server like systems.

 How would you imagine the behavior in case the flash is full and the
 squashfs can't get mounted writeable?
