Hello Ralph,

Making the exceptions is indeed some work but once configured it's there
to stay. We don't use nrpe for windows we use nsclient / check_nt.

We have in our monitoring packages different levels of what to monitor ,
and in case of the customers which have port forwards , they only have
monitoring for their servers , not any other devices. So the port
forwards are working for this.

For customers who have a higher level of monitoring (fe servers +
network) we setup vpn tunnels to their network , and the checks are
performed via the vpn.

As far as I know it's not easy to change the snmp port on some devices ,
but port forwarding can help you getting this configured for more
devices, if the check can use a different port.

Peter

Thank you for your reply,
I am right that making exceptions for every service check is a lot of
work?
E.g when monitoring a second server, you have to redirect nrpe requests
via different port, i.e. setup port forwarding for nrpe on different
port for the second server
But what if you want to monitor via various snmp queries? Do I have to
add a duplicate item for every snmp monitor and change the port or can I
change the port globally?

Thanks and regards,

        Hello Ralph,

This is how we do this :
Less then 5 servers = open port forwards to additional servers ,
configure nsclient on different ports , and make exceptions in the
service checks to change the ports.
More then 5 servers = create vpn tunnel and check via the tunnel
More then 10 servers = Install Slave server on virtual PC /
Virtual server at client location , port forward ssh to this slave
server.

Just our ideas of the setup.

ip

        Hello,

I have to monitor a number (approx of Windows servers which are
placed behind a router with one public ip address.
For one server I use port redirection on the firewall/router,
but additional servers is difficult since I have only one public ip.
What is the best way to monitor these servers?
        Thanks and regards,
