All,

I find that using check_apt works, however, it requires that apt-get update be 
run periodically.

This seems to be standard on Ubuntu Desktop, however, Ubuntu server does not 
seem to have this enabled by default.

If you add a job to cron.daily it should resolve it.

I am not using check_apt but I note that this below has been released 
(early code):

Maybe check_apt does not work right now?
