I have an Epson 4490 Photo scanner with the slide holders and Digital Ice Technology. Insert slides, scan, and the 'Ice' software does a great job on most slides. You can easily export to any other Photo software for further processing if its needed (this is not usually needed unless the slide is really scratched up or very old and degraded). These are not your cheap scanners but can be had for a price considerably less than an SLR. This is just another option.
