Try running the tests through the wizard... the test_cluster script is probably looking for the OSCAR_HOME variable to be set. If you'd rather stay away from the wizard, you can set the OSCAR_HOME variable (e.g. `export OSCAR_HOME=/path/to/oscar/tree`) and run the test_cluster script.

Yes, I did modify the /etc/hosts file.

I corrected the /etc/hosts according to your instruction and magically it successfully completed the step 7, and passed all tests in step 8. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

***** New problem *****

I installed RedHat 7.3 updates and rebooted the server. After so many times of start_over, I wanted a clean start and to assure that a future reboot will not damage the cluster. The server came up clean and nothing Failed. After logged on as root, I tried to run test_cluster one more time from a shell window. I got the following error message:

Can't locate OSCAR/Package.pm in @INC (INC contains ....) at ./test_cluster line 26.
BEGIN failed - compilation abort at ./test_cluster line 26.

I thought I should be able to launch the test_cluster at a root command prompt. What additional software packages I need to install on the server?

Thank you very much for your help.
Julia

Julia-
I think this is probably due to a hosts file issue. Have you done any manual modification to it? PBS and Maui both are very sensitive to the hosts file configuration. Here's the criteria that must be met:

Whatever hostname /bin/hostname returns MUST be on the same line as the cluster interface IP in the /etc/hosts file. It must also be the first occurence of that name. (any other references to the same name must go below it)

have a look and let me know-

Hi,

I re-installed Oscar-2.1 and followed the steps closely. After all client nodes booted up from hard drives, the Step 7: Complete Cluster Setup failed.

I checked the oscarinstall.log file and found the following error messages:

1. Configuration of PBS queues failed at
/root/oscar-2.1/packages/pbs/scripts/post_install line 261, ....exited badly with exit code '2' at ./post_install line 40.

2. could not run 'post_install' script for pbs at ./post_install line 41

3. on the shell window: please check your logs for more info at ./post_install line 46.

I then did Step 8: Test cluster Setup, it passed all tests up to
SSH node -> server Passed, then,

PBS default queue definition Failed
/opt/pbs/bin/pbsnodes: server has no node list
Checking for 10 free nodes:
Not enough free nodes. Test incomplete.

This cluster has one server and 10 clients.

Also, I still get the "portmapper failure" message during the client boot up and need to manually mount the nfs_oscar:/home.

Any help is appreciated.
