hi Azrul,

I don't think we have to be doing these things 100% of the time. And
believe me those MBA's in PWC and what not are just 'cut & pasters'
from their own company manuals, they are incapable of thinkg out of
the box! Met many of them, ppl like Red, me and prob you (and quite
few others I know) can out-think and out debate those jokers. I have
little respect for MBA's lets not 'fear' them.

Also, there's where the community comes in, 'many hands make light
work'. We will need ppl with differing skill sets, there will be
visionaries and there will also be a need for those to work out
details, like financials (budgets, cash-flows), training syllabuses,
network infra, etc.... even people to run around and collect
information,.. so we need ppl's contributions, lets not shut anybody
out. We will need good leadership here to make this work...

Yes, its grand plan, you are right, we need a 'Community Lead
National ICT Plan'. I know MDEC, but I dont think they are capable of
leading, otherwise they wld have done so. It took them (how long?) to
realise OSS exists, and they even 'outsourced' their OSS initiative (
dunno about now..) But there are individuals in MDEC who are fighting
this battle, with us, and those are our allies.

We may not be able to present the complete plan ( again lets not
underestimate ourselves) and I strongly suspect we dont have to,....
If we kick up enough momentum, MDEC, OSCC, EPU et al will have to come
on board... and if I'm not wrong OSCC already has such a plan, perhaps
we just need to tweak its implementation. (perhaps someone can comment
on OSCC plans? I know they too are facing some 'obstacles', otherwise.
why is the OSCC not using Open Office vs MS OFFice?)

Also, as a fellow speaker in MyGOSSCON (Dean of Comp Sc, UniMAP)
mentioned "...you sometimes need power to implement OSS". - about how
he was powerless to determine policy and now that he can, as the Dean,
and the entire dept. uses OpenOffice!

We are launching a guerilla campaign, and allied against us, are 'big
business', clueless bureaucrats/... as usual. Its a long battle ahead.

As for the funding issues, what is to say 'we' cannot be funded to do
something like this? There are different avenues for fnding, perhaps
not on the level of Boston Consult with their 150USD/hr rates, but
certainly/hopefully better than the 'urban poverty' limit of 3K/mth
;-)

This is an initiative from the Rakyat, as a result, I believe we have
a strong political message... But like you say, most of us cannot
spend full-time doing this, you, I .... we have our own paying gigs.
And I dont really need to do this.... but if we dont who will?

Are we gonna see Malaysia left behind in the e-dust of the Web2.0 economy?

at least we can say we did fight for it, win or lose..... and if we
lost. well, we can write it off ... and go overseas ;-)
