Well, it can compile to SWF, and you don't need the source code to use it. So, the engine could be used along with AS if somebody wrote the header file for it. I'm not sure about whether the engine uses any of the AS3 API, though. So, it might be it can only be used with AS3 (and haXe, of course), but if so, it should be fairly easy to convert it to use the AS2 API instead.
