I'm interested too, and I also agree is important to get an official specification.
When I did ask (can't remember the blog, but was from someone from Adobe) they said they were simply not prepared to publish the spec yet. I guess they either have proprietary stuff to clean up, or put more time documenting. How far have you go looking at those XFL files?
