Debug build are always going to be slower than release builds due to their
nature

On windows using Visual Studio 2005 Enterprise we generally see a 2-3x
difference between
release and debug which is typical for Visual Studio

Not sure why your seeing a 100x difference this is not normal in my
experience sounds like for
Some reason in debug your dropping into software rendering maybe ? Could be
a VS express thing
Have you googled to see if any other express user are seeing such a bad hit
?

You could always build your release builds with debugging info turned on and
see if this makes
A difference

Subject: [osg-users] performance of "debug" builds

Hi there,

I'd like to use openscenegraph in an existing Qt 4.3 project of mine, which
I am developing using MSVC 2005 Express.
During development I am mostly using the "Debug" build configuration.
Unfortunately there's a huge performance decrease in osg when I use the
debug dlls.
However, release build dlls won't work (at least the plugins) with the rest
of my project build in "debug".

That would force me to use "Release" settings during development.

I cannot see the reason that rendering is maybe the factor 100 slower than
in release, is there a way to generate debug builds that aren't all too slow
and link against my "debug" settings?

Any hints, just anyone?

greetings & thanks in advance,
Stefan >8^)

PS: Nice to see osg 2.0 out there - congratulations! I am looking forward to
use it :) _______________________________________________
