Regarding the Closing Circle thoughts - I remember that in both Vancouver OSonOS and Swenmark OSonOS the Closing Circle (and sitting still for it) was physically tiring for me. I don't remember being tired at OSonOSinOZ last year, though it could have been that eating kangaroo kept me jumping.
This brings up a big point for me (the circle, not the kangaroo) which is an opportunity for reflection: we all say that you should never design an activity after an Open Space that is a lecture, or an otherwise putting-people-back-into-just-listening shape (such as the rest of a conference or other 'plenary' in the more traditional format activity). And yet sometimes our own Closing Circles, in the design of our own Open Spaces, can be very very long. And the body, just sitting like that, even though heart and spirit and mind are engaged (as when we listen to the amazing things shared and learned during Closing Circle) can be restless, and a bit agitated at having to fit back into that don't-bumblebee-around, non-kinetic 'shape'. In my workshops I have a lot of pillows, blankets, sitting-outside chairs, etc. as alternatives for sitting as well as large balls or things to touch and play with for those in class who are kinetic / who think better that way, for those with back problems, etc. And I notice that they can hold the Closing Circle in either the 'bums-in-chairs' model or the mixed model of some sitting and others standing-swaying, others sitting on or lying on the floor, all in a circle. My two cents to sprinkle into the soup, Lisa ________________________________ L i s a H e f t Consultant, Facilitator, Educator O p e n i n g S p a c e 2325 Oregon Berkeley, California 94705-1106 USA +01 510 548-8449 lisah...@pacbell.net -----Original Message----- From: OSLIST [mailto:osl...@listserv.boisestate.edu] On Behalf Of Gerard Muller Sent: Monday, October 06, 2003 2:32 AM To: osl...@listserv.boisestate.edu Subject: Thoughts from the OSonOS11 organising team: Evening news and Closing Circle Instead of using basically unlimited time would it help to suggest a limited time frame ? * * ========================================================== osl...@listserv.boisestate.edu ------------------------------ To subscribe, unsubscribe, change your options, view the archives of osl...@listserv.boisestate.edu, Visit: http://listserv.boisestate.edu/archives/oslist.html * * ========================================================== osl...@listserv.boisestate.edu ------------------------------ To subscribe, unsubscribe, change your options, view the archives of osl...@listserv.boisestate.edu, Visit: http://listserv.boisestate.edu/archives/oslist.html
