Hi Friends, I am just returning now from three days in Gallup, NM where I cohosted an Art of Hosting conference with about 35 Navajo / Dine focused on promoting wellness and developing leadership capacity. Our hosting team was Chris Corrigan, Roq Gareau of Bowen Island, Teresa Posakony of Seattle, myself, three beautiful local hosts, the land itself, and some other forms seen in different ways.
This Art of Hosting included two open space sessions, two world cafes, an appreciative inquiry, circle, play, meditation, guided imagery, and about six inches of snow -- who'd a thunk it! The last open space helped to crack open a really big peer-learning process in diabetes treatment and prevention, clear first steps on redefining wellness promotion programs, shaping a presentation to the National Indian Council on Aging, gardening projects, and a bunch more. This group really loved the Open Space. It enlivened the group, wove and strengthened relationships, and gave a space for some serious historical sorrow to have room. The pacing worked well. We just created the space for people to listen more deeply, and from that space, harvest wise actions. A few comments from harvest of the first open space -- response to the question, What happened? - powerful talking, miracles are in me - the question is the entrance to where we need to go -- this is magical - passion through energy - I see that I am not unusual - I never new this was at our fingertips - we learned a lot about each other. I know others with the same interest now. It could snow all week and we could stay here! - we listened and witnessed the truth of each other - it was spiritual -- we are all warriors and connected It was lovely and beautiful friends. A bow to all of you doing this work and learning and to the field that is now present opening to more and more transformation of life on this planet.
