If there is not one already, how about starting an OSSEC roadmap now, for 2012. There are no shortage of issues and feature requests to work on, the hard part is determining which ones to work on, and who will work on them. With some coordination, this community can make it happen.
How about starting from https://bitbucket.org/dcid/ossec-hids/issues and recruit volunteers to take ownership investigating interested issues? Is there a way to tie selected issues to a release schedule and form a Roadmap?
