On a laptop, if I need speed, I'll go for a 7200rpm external drive.  
I'd rather not have the hottest, most power-consuming drive available  
in a laptop as my boot drive.

There are compelling arguments for running 5400rpm drives instead of  
7200rpm drives in portable machines. SSD makes even more sense.
