Hi all;

my dad has an emac running 0s x 10.3.8

he also has a powermac 550/225.

he wants to use diskettes (!) on teh new emac, so i
bought a lacie usb diskette drive.

problem.

the new drive and emac will only recognise ibm
formatted diskettes which he has acquired from other
people (hes a retired academic) with mainly ms-word
documents on them.

there is no ethernet port on the powermac.

is there a solution ?

googling leads me to believe that the usb diskette
drives or os x itself will only recognise later
diskette formats and not 800k or dd diskettes.

ideas ?

Hi Damien,
if my thoughts are right the 5500 should have a spare pci slot. If you can track down a mac compatible ethernet card, then you could network the 2 machines using a crossover cable. What OS are you running on the 5500? I have been able to get a generic RealTek 8139 driver to run on OS 9.2. This card was just a $20 generic PC ethernet card that had the number 8139b printed on the largest chip. If you can track down one of these cards (I think they are fairly common) I can email you the driver. Other than that, I have a CommSlot 2 ethernet card which you can have, but I am not 100% sure if it works, since I have never tested it. Obviously you would need a type 2 communications slot for that to work, but it should be easily recognised by Mac OS.

I hope some of that helps!
