w.r.t. Kotlin – as an app developer I would skip it (mostly) and focus on Flutter. I say mostly because for the platform specific components, you’ll need to know it. For anyone interested in Sydney there is a meetup next Tuesday (https://www.meetup.com/gdgsydney/events/252175587/). Strange it hadn't popped-up for me in technical articles before, as I think it's been quite mature for at least a year now. The first thing that strikes is the amazing similarity to C#, and they even acknowledge this in places on the official site. The most startling thing through, is how it's being marketed as a better Java. This page<https://kotlinlang.org/docs/reference/comparison-to-java.html> summarises the general superiority of Kotlin over Java. So … after 20 years, will Java become an evolutionary dead-end? There is a lot to like about Kotlin and you're right about it being C#-ish looking version of Java. The language was developed by JetBrains. JetBrains built the IntelliJ which is the basis for Android Studio. Google announced last year that Kotlin is a first class language for Android https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8ALcQiuPWs. I don't know what the Enterprise story is for Kotlin however for development on the most widely adopted operating system on Earth; I'd say Java's days as a primary language are numbered.
